Spring/Summer Shades

Spring/Summer Shades

It’s almost the end of January which, for me, is a reason to celebrate. The end of January means it’s almost Spring – my absolute favourite time of year. The lambs, the blossoms on the trees, the promise of sunnier climes…

My housemate is off to Goa on her holidays at the weekend (you can’t even begin to imagine how jealous I am) so we have been planning her day-by-day holiday look-book. Because, of course, every girl has to make sure they are utterly flawless every second of every day. It’s a given! Especially when it is probably your only holiday in the year. And the only time nice photos will be taken for your Facebook page.

I am completely in love with ice-cream pastel shades and they are everywhere at the moment. You just can’t beat peach, mint and lilac in the colour department. But pastels are tricky when it comes to make-up. A mint jumper is all well and good, but on your eyes….it’s a bit 90s and B*witched for me.

So here are a few more accessible looks

Pastel Pop

Use pastel coloured liquid eyeliner, pencil eye liner or eyeshadow to create structural sweeps of colour on your eyelids and leave the rest of your face bear. Make like Spring/Summer 2012  Philip Lim (right) and Creatures of the Wind (left).

Spring Summer

Peaches and Cream

Compliment your ice-cream shade clothes with smooth creamy skin and peachy cheeks. Keep it very simple and low-key, just team with a slick of mascara for a youthful and fresh Spring look. Valentino (left) and Christopher Kane (right) did it perfectly for their catwalk looks.

If you want to inject a hint of Spring without committing fully to the pastel revolution (especially for those firm supporters of black and grey clothing in Winter) then some gorgeous nail varnish shades to choose from. Alexa Chung does a fab job with sky blue nails.
