Skin issues predominantly need to be addressed on the inside rather than just with the use of topical creams. There are often a number of underlying things going on and therefore requires a multi-disciplined approach.
I would start by looking at your diet and reducing fatty foods - dairy, red meats, and processed foods - but ensuring you have plenty of good fats such as oily fish, olives and a small amount of nuts and seeds. Also consider reducing stimulants such as sugary foods, tea, coffee and alcohol.
I would then focus on cleaning up the gut and you can do this by using gentle gut cleansing foods such as Flaxseeds (1 tablespoon two to three times a day), eating prunes and plenty of fruit particularly plums, cherries and other ‘red’ fruits.
Taking a good probiotic will also help you as these good bacteria can help ‘mop’ up toxins in the bowel. Drinking Nettle tea will also help in the cleansing process.
Skin can be affected by hormonal changes so if you find your skin gets worse during hormonal fluctuations then it may well be worth seeing a herbalist who can help you find the right herbs to balance these.
Finally if you want to use a topical treatment then consider Witch Hazel gel. It can help in reducing spots and making them less pronounced and red.
