New Year, New Look

New Year, New Look

It’s 2012 and I need to do something different with my hair; I am really stuck in a hair rut. You know when you look in the mirror and you feel ‘blah’? I’ve felt like that for about a year and a half.

However, the hairdressers to me is like the dentist to you. I have always had disastrous luck in the hair department - more horrific haircuts than hot dinners!

The most memorable cut and colour of my life was just before I was about to move to London. I went in with photos of exactly what I wanted. I was thinking gamine, I was thinking Alexa Chung: a shoulder length bob with ombre highlights.

I left looking like the grotesque spawn of a red panda and a medieval monk. For some reason, only known to herself, the hairdresser decided that shoulder length actually meant barely grazing my jawline, and took ombre highlights to mean chestnut-red and ash-blonde stripes through 80% of my hair. She left the peroxide on for so long that my hair went whiter than my gran’s. I left the salon sobbing and on the brink of a nervous breakdown, unable to leave my house for about four days.

Since then, I have point-blank refused to go to the hairdressers but what with terrible split ends and my desire to look really different for 2012, I apprehensively I booked an appointment.

I shouldn’t have worried. Rachel, my hairdresser, was brilliant. She completely understood what I wanted and delivered on all accounts. My New Year’s New Look is a full proper fringe – something I haven’t had since I was eighteen. I love it!

I have just visited a beauty parlour and tanning salons. I am just loving my bronze look. However, can anyone suggest me where can I get good haircut?

I have had my hair cut from long to sholder lenght and I'm loving it.  I was scared at first but now it's great.  It takes me less time to deal with and generally I'm complimented on it.

I'm losing weight and have purchased some new clothes with vouchers I got at Christmas.  I normally hate change but I'm embracing it now and It's making me feel very happy.

Next question....what colour should I dye my hair?  Hmmmm

Got to say you totally rock that fringe. :) It would of been nice to see a before and after. Im planning on losing half a stone, toning up and changing my hair style. At the moment ive got a bob that goes just below my shoulders. Ive had it since I was 15, im now 31 so I definatly think I need a wee change. Its all one length so im thinking of getting my hair layered.

I have just spent the last three years getting my hair to grow from rally short to long, the front bits are getting there slowly but not as long as the react.

When I am at a happy length I will go to the hairdresser and have a few inches cut off to keep a good condition on the hair but right now I get my husband to give me a quick trim as when you go to the hairdresser and say just this much off they always take of far more than what you asked and there is no way I am chancing my front slightly shorts length being made too short.

I fell into the trap of getting my hair trimmed every so many weeks when trying to grow it but found that as the hair grows so slowly it was one step forward and two back every time I had it cut, so I made the decision to stop having it cut and the hair grew well from there.

Now you will always get people that say it should be cut to promote growth but this will mainly be a hairdresser myth to get you in there, when we all know once the hair grows from the head it is dead so why the need to cut dead hair, all you need to do is keep an eye on those ends to check for split ends.

Whether you trim it or not, hair grows about half an inch (1.3 centimetres) every month, the growth rate won't speed up if you take more hair off the bottom, and if you're trimming off more than that each month, then you cut off all the new growth. What frequent trims will do is make hair look healthier, particularly if the chops eliminate split ends but better prevent split ends by avoiding heat and over styling.

Right now I am resisting having a fringe as I would like to have hair all one length, just wish the front would grow quicker ☺
