Jonathan Soons answers your questions about haircare

Jonathan Soons answers your questions about haircare

You asked: I straighten my hair and find after a while it goes like rats tails, what do you recommend to keep it looking silky smooth?

Jonathan answered: If you love a glossy look and silky finish, and straighteners are your best mate, use Lumino Contrast serum from L'Oreal Série Expert. It doubles up as a finishing product to keep the look going longer when it's one of those windy days.

You asked: My hair is very slow in growth, how can I make it grow faster??

Jonathan answered: hair growth has a lot to do with diet, so you could be missing something to tickle your cuticles into growing. Try Kerastase Nutrients tablets, they will give you what you need to get your hair growing not only faster, but stronger and stop the hair from becoming brittle.

You asked: What conditioner can I use on curly frizzy hair that gets soaked due to the menopause?

Jonathan answered: Shine Curl shampoo and conditioner from L'Oreal Série Expert will rock your world.

You asked: I have a 3 year old daughter who has fine hair that frizzes at the back. Can you help please? Thank you.

Jonathan answered: Leave in conditioners and protein sprays are the best when combing the hair in the morning.

You asked: Any tips and product advice for split ends?

Jonathan answered: Fiberceutic hair filler for split ends by L'Oreal is an amazing salon service. I would also recommend regular trims.

You asked: Any tips on protecting your hair when out in the sun?

Jonathan answered: The Solar Sublime range by L'Oreal Série Expert has the best shampoos and sprays to keep you going on your holidays.

You asked: I have fine, naturally curly hair. How can I thicken it?

Jonathan answered: tong your roots and leave your mid ends the same, it will boost the volume and last for a lot longer.

You asked: How often should you have your hair cut?

Jonathan answered: It depends on the length. For short styles it's 5 to 7 weeks; for long hair it's 6 to  10 weeks

You asked: Is it true or just a myth that you have to shampoo/condition your hair every time that you wash it?

Jonathan answered: Always back up your shampoo with conditioner, but you don't have to wash every day, it's good to use your natural oils as food for your hair .

You asked: What is the best way to protect your hair when you regularly straighten it?

Jonathan answered: Use a thermal protector product on your ends everyday when straightening. Ciment Thermique from Kerastase is the best.

You asked: I'd like some advice on how to stop my scalp from going flaky. I have dark hair so it's noticeable. I hate it, please help.

Jonathan answered: Intense Clear shampoo from L'Oreal Série Expert is a winner for the odd flakiness.

You asked: I have very thick, frizzy hair. I've tried loads of products to get rid of the frizz. Do you have any tips?

Jonathan answered: You need to use a range that is just for that problem, with dedicated shampoo, conditioner and styling products. Liss Ultime range from L'Oreal will take care of any unwanted frizz. Using a range with the same technology throughout gives you a better chance of solving the frizz.

You asked: My hair comes out in strands and clumps when I wash it. I always use conditioner after shampooing. Any advice?

Jonathan answered: find a salon that has a Kerastase Diagnostic machine to look at you scalp and ends to really see what is going on, there are more and more around the country now.

You asked: How do I get natural volume at my roots without using lots of product?!

Jonathan answered: use a volume mousse at the roots, then put your head upside down and when drying massage your roots to activate the mousse. Finally, blowdry your roots and ends with a big round brush.

You asked: I have very dry brittle ends and oily roots. What can I use to balance it to make it easier to style?

Jonathan answered: I'd recommend a balancing shampoo, Sensi Balance from L'Oreal Série Expert is the best.

Hair transplant is a surgical technique that
involves moving skin containing hair follicles from one part of the body (the donor site)
to bald or balding parts (the recipient site). It is primarily used to treat male pattern
baldness, whereby grafts containing hair follicles that are genetically resistant to
balding are transplanted to bald scalp.

Hi guys,

I'm afraid Jonathan isn't our expert anymore. If you're after hair care advice why not ask other members in the forums. Our current expert is make up artist Victoria Bond so make sure you ask her your beauty questions!
