Janey Lee Grace's answers to your health questions

Janey Lee Grace's answers to your health questions
  • I have a poor diet and my hair is very damaged, dry and frizzy. What should I do?
  • Hi Janey. My hair hasn’t really grown for two years. Do you have any suggestions?

Damaged hair and hair that won’t grow in my opinion is very often caused by over washing. Many of us are washing the life out of our hair and using products that strip the natural oils and washing every day or every other day is, believe it or not, too much!  Try using a pure bristle brush to brush the hair regularly to work the natural oils through the hair, especially before you shampoo and then only shampoo the roots/scalp area.

Problems can also be damage from poor colouring too; in this instance I’d recommend a consultation with a professional colourist who uses organic and mineral colours such as Spirit hair in the Cotswolds. Diet will also affect the hair: you’ll need to drink lots of water, eat as little processed foods as possible and make sure you’re getting lots of green leafy veg and essential fatty acids.

  • What is the best way to thoroughly clean your face? Wipes? Cleanser? Scrub?

If you’re wearing make-up it feels more thorough to use wipes but they’re not terribly eco friendly. I do recommend though the three-in-one wipes from Faith in Nature, they cleanse tone and moisturise and they’re ‘sustainable’ and biodegradable. If you’re using cleanser be sure to clean it all off even if it’s a natural one and the best exfoliator or ‘scrub’ is simply a handful of oatmeal with water. You can add some sea salt for a more abrasive scrub or some honey to make it into more of a facial mask.

  • How can I delay jowls from appearing on my face?

Facial exercises, move your jaw around and do ‘facial yoga’ (see the article on ww.imperfectlynatural.com for ideas).

  • Hi Janey, my skin's awful at the moment, spots, dry skin etc what's the quickest way to sort it out?!

Stop using all your conventional products, wash with a clean flannel (remember those??) and then apply neat tea tree oil to the spots night and morning. To rehydrate, apply a fine layer of organic facial oil such as the organic daily facial oil from www.inlight-online.com.

  • How can I remove my dark circles?

I wish! Obviously sleep can be a factor but for many people it’s just the way their skin is. I personally find the ‘cleaner’ my diet and the more I drink freshly extracted juices the less dark circles I have. I also advise drinking lots of filtered water.

  • I would like to find some info on Acai berry. Is it safe and where can I buy it from?

The Acai berry is thought to be one of the most nutritious and powerful tools in boosting immunity, aiding weight loss and preventing cancer, perhaps because it is so rich in B vitamins and also contains Oleic acid (omega 9). It’s very safe if you buy from a reputable supplier such as Fresh Network.

  • How do I reduce my hair from falling, and how can I stop looking so tired?

Get lots of rest, lots of exercise and juice daily! It sounds way too simplistic but you will look vibrant and alive if you do those three things! If your diet is high percentage raw foods you’ll have even more energy.

  • Do you know which is the best fake tan to use, and which lasts the longest?

I’d only consider the ‘natural’ ones so suggest the Green People fake tan. It lasts ages, I know because I tried a patch test on my knee (don’t ask!) and for weeks people were asking what that brown patch on my knee was!

Hi girligo! We have a new expert as Janey Lee Grace was only with us for a month. You can maybe ask our new expert, Brett (http://www.talkperfection.com/ask-the-expert) but he may not be an expert in skincare. Or, do start a new thread in the forum and our lovely community members will no doubt give you their invaluable advice :-)
