I really, really don’t like January. It’s the worst month of all twelve for me. I transform into a grumpy old man around the 7th January, after the Christmas tree has been put in the bin and the decorations have been taken down.
This particular January has been very exasperating for me and I am even grumpier than normal. There are several reasons why:
Firstly, I’m still porky from my over indulgence at Christmas and can’t stop eating cake (the New Year’s resolution, as I predicted, went right out of the window).
Secondly, it’s freezing cold, windy and rainy (and therefore my hair is always messed up and my mascara is always ruined).
Thirdly, I don’t have any holidays or festivities to look forward to.
And lastly, and most importantly, I have no money whatsoever and pay day is still two weeks away. Grumble, grumble, grumble….
I know I am not alone in at least two of these points so in an attempt to drag myself away from my grumpy grandpa alter ego, I have come up with a list of my favourite essential beauty bargains, all under a fiver so they don’t break the bank!
Invigorating Apricot Scrub
This is the UK best and fastest selling exfoliating scrub and for good reason! Containing completely natural ingredients, St Ives Apricot Scrub softens, nourishes and detoxes your skin and clears away all impurities – my skin always looks fresh and smooth after I use it. One little tube of this will last a year so at around £4.39 a pop, it’s an absolute bargain!

Palmers Cocoa Butter
Is there any better smell than this creamy, chocolately, sweet lotion? I have used it every day since I was 15 and I will continue using it until the end of time. In fact, I’ve used it so much, my skin smells of cocoa butter even if I don’t smother myself in it. But it’s not just for making you smell delicious though; it smoothes out stretch marks, it sorts out cracked feet and nourishes dry hands. Miracle cream for £3.73

Barry M Wink Eyeliner Pen
Eyeliner felt tip pens are the way forward. They give you so much more control over those 50s flicks. Barry M is always brilliant in my eyes and this brand new eyeliner pen is no different. It’s just as good as the one I got with Boudoir Prive and at a price, Del Boy would be proud of! £4.59.

Batiste Dry Shampoo Tropical
I know it’s such an obvious one but it is such an essential product AND SO CHEAP!! It is something I definitely can’t live with out – along with almost every one of my female friends. £2.99 for 150ml.

But I think my favourite budget beauty tip has to be MoneySavingExpert.com.
There are so many amazing products you can get for free or substantially cheaper , you just have to know where to find them – and this website knows where to find every beauty bargain out there! Literally everything! L’Occitaine lip balm for £2, Spa treatments for £10 or less, free Clinique mascaras….Get on it now!
Roll on February! What are you favourite essential beauty buys for under a fiver?
