Medically enhanced eyelashes!
I’ve never really had spectacular eye lashes- I think it comes from the Chinese side of my family (well that is my theory anyway)- so when I came across the news that a drug designed originally to treat glaucoma seems to give it’s users long eyelashes my interest was definitely piqued.
It’s here in the marie claire magazine news. Fascinating stuff. Though the underlying mechanisms don’t appear to be very well known. At least not how the drug causes eyelash growth.
There would be a huge market in it I’m sure. Eyes are the feature that you can’t seem to do much with- yes, laser surgery to correct vision, but you can’t easily or effectively change their colour without lenses. Nor can one easily change the shape of them I suppose.
So longer lashes? I would definitely be up for trying that drug out! As a glaucoma medicine it is known as Lumigan. According to marie claire, could be in UK shops as early as next year (as Latisse) as it has already been licensed for cosmetic use. Lumigan itself is applied in a daily eye drop form and can also increase the brown pigment in the eye.
But how safe is it? Well, I suspect that is the million dollar question. Glaucoma is an increased pressure in the eye. It is associated with diabetes, among other diseases. Have you ever had the eye test where they blow a tiny puff of air onto your eyeball? That’s one for glaucoma. The active ingredient in Lumigan boosts the naturally occurring fluid drainage from the eye.
The next step must lie with the eye experts. It sounds like the drug has a pretty dramatic effect- both in terms of the eyelash growth (longer and thicker, apparently) and in terms of its effect on fluid drainage. I haven’t found any news yet but my question would be- is it the drug or is it the use of eye-drops alone that has this effect? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
When I was 15 I singed my eyelashes while cooking something on a gas cooker. They all fell out and have never been the same since so I would really really love longer eyelashes.I have recently discovered my eyes are more greenish than brown so I would also love more brown pigment.
ooo dear that something that i was looking for.
about 5-6 years ago mu lashes were long and thick. but not anymore.
now my eyelashes are weak and short. everytime I'm taking my make up off I'm loosing lots of lashes from each eye. and I'm using good make-up remover! putting mascara on makes me fell so bad and ugly. spen like 30min just for doing that as all lashes go down and every single way plus looks like there is no lashes in some places (because they got out day before). ohhhh awful.
would really love to try something to make it better. to make me fell better as well.
gosh, if there is a trial for this, I'd love to test it. I'm 55 and have suffered from under active thyroid problems, which have resulted in loss of eyelash and eyebrow hairs. I use false lashes, but it's not the same as having plenty of your own. Please include me if there is a possibility. Thanks
My kids have the longest eyelashs I have ever seen and I would love to have them too this product could mean the demise of the eyelash curler and no more eye infections with the gluing, although using chemicals to do this sounds strange especially if it changes the pigment of your eye
It would seem that this product should be on the market by now, as the first reply was made over a year ago. Perhaps it has been delayed, or is just not scheduled for release until later this year. If anyone reading this has tried this product, it would be very interesting to hear about what it did for you, both in terms of eyelash growth and medical side-effects. First thought upon reading the article were "where do I get some?"
Id give it a go.
I was a fan of the falsh individual lashes (which I had done professionally and they looked amazing).......until I woke up one morning found two stuck to my nose and ran screaming hysterically from the bathroom thinking I had a spider on my nose! Not so keen now!
This sounds great and would love it if I didn't have to stand in the mirror with the tweezers, trying to stick on eyelashes (only to forget later and rub my eyes.. lol).. I have green eyes, but hey am up for a change, so if you pick me I can also be the guinea pig for the colour change!!!
Hi there this is a strange one changes colour of your eyes also well i have green eyes so would it make them turn brown or would it only be suitable for people with brown eyes i would try it who would not want lovely long lashes mine are fair and pretty sparse but i think there needs to more trials of this before i would try it as i like my green eyes thanks Jackie
I've been reading about this product (Lattise) for quite some time now and it seems to really work. As I travel back and forth to the United States quite often almost every magazine you open there is a picture of Brooke Shields, as she is the spokes person for this product. I believe even in the US you can only get it on prescription and it's not cheap. I've always been envious of people with long eye lashes and I would definitely give it a go if it was affordable. According to the reviews I've read about this it really does work.
Thankfully having long lashes is quite common in my family and yes i have also been blessed lol, but i would say an eye lash curler when heated using a hair dryer for a few minutes will always life the lashes and do the trick, whether you want to apply mascara on after or leave it looking natural is upto you but its always worked for my friends who have had trouble keeping their lashes up. However i wouldnt reccomend taking any form of drugs etc.
Invest in a good mascara, lash curlers and take your time to learn to make up your lashes properly...There are some excellent video lessons available to view on You Tube...Or if you are feeling extravagant then ask a reputable salon about dying what you already have or if they do lash inserts or extensions...good for a special occasion and if you take care of them last a few weeks...
I have tried several products to enhance my eyelashes, which have always been short and thin. None of them made any difference, latest being Lipocils from Talika. I value my eyes enormously, even though my sight is poor. I am most interested in laser surgery, but the last time I asked about it, not one optician in the Uk had had it done, for fear of long term issues, or it causing damage to the eyes resulting in worse sight than before. When the long term effects are known, I will be dead and buried), being 55 years old. It was most interesting to read this very balanced article.
Hmm - well, I would love to return to the full, long, thick lashes of my distant youth ( they are looking a bit moth-eaten these days!), but I love my green eyes and would not want any brown pigments increased.
Also, the thought of unnecessarily putting medication in my eyes is a bit daunting - so I would want mega-assurances of the innocuity of the process!
(to Holly - I had laser eye surgery a few years ago, changed my life - go for it, it's not nearly as gruesome or invasive as it looks, and is over in a few minutes)
