Do dandruff shampoos take the colour out of dyed hair?
Just noticed that I haven't started any conversations however now I feel the need. I put a lovely dark blonde hair colourant from a very good brand on my hair on Saturday, was careful of the time, had already checked it suited my existing colour, not the first time I have coloured my own hair and the colour on the box was lovely. As I was timing it my husband remarked how dark it looked on my hair and when I washed it out, lo and behold my previous blondish hair is now quite a dark brown colour, very shiny I must admit but definitely noticably darker. Have been washing it a few times in a dandruff shampoo as I heard it can take out the colour. Not much change yet (haven't much dandruff though lol). So the question is this do any of you out there have any tips that can help and is the dandruff shampoo thing a myth and also please think of me tomorrow as I walk into a school of pass remarkable students who I as a Behaviour Support Assistant am supposed to appear all calm, cool and collected and will more than likely be the subject of a few conversations. I am now perfecting my replies such as "Yes It turned out exactly as planned" and "Yes, I felt I needed a little change"lol. So any help will be much appreciated.
Hi, getting quite used to the colour now but know when the regrowth starts I will have to take your advice before I try to recolour or before I know it I will end up jet black which I definitely will not be able to carry off. Poor you, pillar box red, why do we do it? I know we won't get the exact colour on the box but to have such a difference. Guess you felt like myself when you saw it, shock, horror, whatever. I promise you I will test it as you said before I use it, don't want any more surprises. You have been great in giving me this advice, thanks for all your help.

Hi CarrieDoway, thanks for replying, must look in the chemist tomorrow, great to know that it is gentle on sensitive skin but I will follow your advice and try it on my elbow first, must admit I am not the most patient of people and am inclined to ram ahead but this last disaster has left me a little more careful. Will it completely strip the colour out or just fade it a little and if it does will I need to recolour it again with a more suitable colour.
Hi thanks for the advice folks, braved the comments at school but guess what, seems this colour is much more me or else they are very accomplished at telling whoppers which I don't doubt. Seriously though have continued the dandruff shampoo treatment, believe there is a slight difference, why is it if I didn't want a change using a shampoo like this it would happen and now I do I get only a small change in colour, life isn't fair. Vosene is what I am using at present CarrieDoway but the Borax is new to me, do I ask for it at the chemist, I am so frightened of going from bad to worse. The peroxide idea is something to consider however so thanks to todays for this idea.
Some anti dandruff shampoos do fade the colour quicker, the main brand has recently bought out a colour friendly version so I guess they knew it too. Vosene is known to strip colour pretty quick and another product I know for a fact that strips it is borax...I've used it fairly successfully. A hairdresser and chemist recommended it to me when my hair took a little too bright a red than I could comfortably carry off. I have sensitive skin and it didn't irritate me, it actually left my hair really soft but I would advise doing a quick test on your inner elbows before rubbing the stuff into your scalp.
