Cheap fake tan v's expensive

chocangel

I bought St tropez everyday gradual tan moisturiser and not only was it blotchy and streaky but the colour was very orange, now I dont want to try the full St Tropez fake tan incase that is just as bad, I know Zentan has a green colour base which neutralises the orange tones but to be honest I'm quite happy with Nivea Body Sunkissed Skin.

Ive tried all sorts of tans and a lot of them do not even seem to change the colour of my skin so these days I stick to what I know although if antone has tried Fake Bake could they let me know how they got on, thanx          ch'angel

I have tried most false tans on the market and have been bitterly disappointed, that is until I tried Rodial it is expensive but worth every penny,it is amazing and applies really easy and within an hour perfect tan every time ,smells good ,lasts ages I use Rodial light as i am fair skinned, but they also do Dark, the fact that i can go from pale and pastey in an hour suits me , the cost is £39so not for everyone ,but I have paid £25 in the past for spray tan and looked like i had been tangoed, and it cost me a further £10 for products to remove it and half my skin so i have no wish to go there again.

HI, i usually use St Tropez mousse and get on really well with it, i just use loads and loads of moisturiser with it so it doesnt patch, i have recently been recommended a £2.89 cheap tanning solution called st.moriz by a friend of mine who tans all the time and she says it is just as good, i bought both the mist and mousse for £2.89 each the other day from SAVERS and tested the mist the other day, i would say this is a very good cheap alternative...saying that i have not used on my face yet, but certainly a competitor for St Tropez! worth a try for £2.89!

Garnier spray mist all the way. I am the LAZIEST self tanner in the world and can never be bothered to wait for it to dry, I have never had a streak in my life and think this is the best value for money product around. All my mates agree and we get through bottles of the stuff every month.

i agree. ive tried st tropez and it goes really streaky...not an overly nice colour and not great smell. my boyfriend even commented how bad it looked.also liked fake bake & he shui although they are very dark so better for going out than daily use. mostly i use clarins fake tanning milk and its excellent. its a brilliant colour just dark enough for pale skin& smells good.it also moisturises skin while it tans.ive heard make believe tan really good too but havent tried it.its pretty dear though 30 quid a bottle.

Hi there, I have skin which is quite easily tanned with careful use of high factor products but I have been using the Avon  Satin Glow Daily Body Moisturiser for a couple of years now and find it works very well. The key is to make sure it is dried on the skin properly and this should take over a hour . The smell is not unpleasant and I find it gives a good even tan which requires build-up over a few applications to get just right. Just watch out for the dryer patches at elbows and knees as with most of these creams I find it best to mix with a little moisturiser there. Happy Tanning xxx

I’ve been using Imedeen tan optimiser for a couple of years now and am hooked. Take a few tablets before you go away to get a darker tan – genius!

I use one from QVC called monne express tanning liquid. You just apply with cotton wool and as its already brown you can see where it goes. It dries instantly and is suitable for sensitive skin. Its also available in a spray and does not smellawful. in fact it smells of lavender and ylang ylang. After years of having streaks and patches i have brown legs! its expensive at £22.00 but worth it for the ease of use and results.

Well as I take a week to go from pale blue to white then to red then peel I tend to use a touch of self tan and have been using nutrisummer which not only smells lush but goes on a treat!

Hi girls,

I have a (probably stupid) question... I've never had any success with fake tan in the past but I'm going on holiday in under a fortnight and I have a shocking office tan - I look like a slab of marble. If I use fake tan to get a bit of a colour so that I'm not so pasty on day one, will it get in the way of me getting an actual tan? It won't, will it?!

:)

Hi. I have quite pale skin and have tried a few different fake tans.  In the end Ive decided the best thing to do is not to bother!! - sorry to sound negative but sometimes I wonder if it is all worth it - all the money and time? Ive not used fake tan for a few years now and really it does not bother me now at all.  I know people think they look better with a fake tan, but I think these days it does not matter so much - its just the celebs who go overboard.  When I see someone pale like me instead of thinking 'she'd look better with a tan' - i think 'Great - someone else just like me'!!

I know what u mean, I admit i have never, ever liked that mahogany colour so many girls & woman seem to aspire to, I think it is SO aging, and lots of people look classic with creamy skin-like Kelly Brook, Gwynith Paltrow,JSP etc, but if I had that peaches n' cream complexion, blemish free I wouldn't bother-Ive been told i look peaky so many times it makes me feel inferior or sickly or something-but im begining to think maybe its other peoples problem buying into the tanned &healthy stereotype,I would hate to think I was stressing myself to try to fit into others misconceptions.Im going to go 4 a spray tan & borrow sum1s fake bake for those summer days when i have 2 wear a dress and couldn't possibly go out with milkbottle legs even if i was paid a billion pound only because I wld feel self-concious:)well maybe 4 a billion i would,ok then, a grand...thanx 4 replying, chocx

I have only ever tried a Boots own brand- or I think it was a Soltan thing? Anyway, it was a liquid pump spray, clear to spray on, no immediate change. It went a good brown...in stripes and blotches! Definitely less than a fiver. Would not recommend. But I shall double check the name etc.

The same has to be said for the Dove Summer Glow Fair to Medium (and the dark one). Nice feel, nice scent, but ugh, the state of my splotchy legs after a few hours was just laughably embarrassing.

Actually having reminded myself how hilariously poorly these fake tans worked out for me makes me think I should have a pyjama party and relive all of these faux pas. For the amusement of my girlfriends only of course! Over a Bank Holiday perhaps, so I have a few days to try and remove the beauty disasters before work begins again. Hee hee.
