bareMinerals - rethink your foundation

1. How easy was it to apply? Very easy to apply. All you need to do is shake a little of the product into the lid, the amount depending on how much coverage you want. Then Swirl. Tap. Buff! After a few go’s it’s easy to do in a couple of minutes.

For those not familiar with the bareMineral products there are three face products; Foundation, Warmth All-Over Face Color and the Mineral Veil. Firstly you apply the foundation using the Full Flawless Face Brush or the Flawless Application Face Brush, the latter gives less coverage. You can also use the foundation as a concealer or use the Multi-Tasking Concealer which you get in the pack. For concealing purposes you get their Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush and the Light Stroke Brush. In the second step you use the Warmth colour which I find gives you a healthy glow. It’s like a terracotta blush which is meant to suit all skin tones. You only need a TINY amount of the product. I find it useful to tap the lid sideways so the product spreads around the lid. This ensures even application so you don’t end up with orangey splotches.
Finally comes the Mineral Veil. This locks the makeup in place and gives you a dewy finish. Make sure you get all the Warmth off the brush before applying!

2. Was the "how to guide" useful? The DVD is a very good introduction to using mineral makeup. It features the CEO of Bare Escentuals, Leslie Blodgett, with three bM customers. She demonstrates how to apply the products you get in the pack and then asks one of the customers to show you how she applies her daily make up. This is repeated for Beyond the Basics products, which are meant to enhance your complexion, and then for eye shadows. I like how real women are used and it reinforces how easy it is for the bM system to become habit.

3. How did it feel upon the skin? You can’t really feel it! The powder is so light and melds into the skin so it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything. In my mind this is the biggest advantage of mineral makeup.

4. How did it feel upon the skin? Here were my requirements:
a.    Light coverage – I don’t want to look caked, just to even out my skin tone
b.    Keep shine at bay
c.    Stay put all day
d.    Match my colour

Here’s how it matched up:
a.    Yes. As you control the coverage.
b.    Yes. The powder manages to reduce shine in the usual problem T-zone.
c.    Pretty much. There is a little more shine towards the end of the day, but a touch up is quick and easy (providing you have a counter to balance all the pots on).

d.    Yes. As there are two pots of foundation you can play around until you get your shade. This system is great as your skin colour will vary throughout the year so you can adjust your foundation accordingly. I had the medium pack which suited my recently-tanned skin tone, though I think in the winter months I would need the lighter pack.

5. Was it value for money? My view is that with foundation, you get what you pay for. bM is no exception. It lies in the top end of the price spectrum but it is a high quality product. So yes, I think it is value for money. Also, if you already have makeup brushes you could just buy the product pots separately rather than getting the pack.

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used? The only other mineral brand I’ve tried is Sheer Cover. The differences between the two are more to do with the type of product rather than quality. For example SC have a cream-based concealer whereas bM’s is a powder. I prefer the cream-based for around my nose but find it too heavy for under the eyes so like to use powder there. Also, SC have incorporated their mineral veil into the foundation. This means one less step which is always a plus for busy women. However, I like having the mineral veil separate as it’s a good pick me up when you don’t want to add colour.

This is a brilliant product and the pack is a great introduction into the world of mineral makeup. I give it 9/10.

If you’re uncertain, why not visit a counter and ask the representative to give you a mini makeover. See how it lasts through the day, have a look in the daylight and ask your family and friends (the honest ones!). Take your time to make a decision before investing in the product.

My trial of Bareminerals Fantastic,It was great to receive the parcel i was delighted with the contents alone,I know to buy each item separately is way more than £45 so 10/10 on first impression

1,HOW EASY WAS IT TO APPLY,I had no problems in fact i found it very easy,I had a bit of a mess about mixing the two shades of foundation either way i always managed to get the perfect shade,And the bronzer i love it,I think every one will have their own way to use it as mine is i prefer to use the mineral veil before i have applied anything else

2,WAS THE HOW TO GUIDE,Very easy to follow both the DVD and the Booklet,I prefer the booklet

3,HOW DID IT FEEL ON THE SKIN,It felt like i was wearing nothing with most powders of any kind you can get that tight feeling but not with this

4,DID YOU GET THE RESULT YOU WANTED,Yes i did although the only one i was not to keen on would be the concealer it made the lines on my eyes more noticeable so i switched to the mineral veil that did wonders it did not sit in my lines and actually i felt it brightened my eyes,Now that i have a bit of a tan i have just been using the mineral veil and the bronzer I LOVE IT.

5,VALUE FOR MONEY,Do you have to ask HELL YEAH £45 for all the make-up and the brushes to buy all these separately you would be well over £100

6,HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO OTHER MINERAL PRODUCTS YOU HAVE USED,Well i would have to say their is no comparison this has got to be one of the best, most of the ones i have tried have been in the cheaper range i would like to try the sheer cover mineral make-up as i think Bareminerals and Sheer Cover are the market leaders but until i try Sheer Cover i give Bareminerals 10/10 on everything

Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to try this product and i look forward to many more thanks Jackie

Hi,

I'm not sure if you're allowed to post twice on the same subject, but I just thought I'd come back and let you all know that I'm totally converted to Bare Minerals now! I've used them non stop since I received them and I don't think I'll go back to the heavy liquid foundation again.  If you have any blemishes then foundations and concealers tend to just make them worse, the Bare Minerals seem to cover them and also help with the healing.

I'm definitely a fan and  I've definitely been converted!

Thanks Talk Perfection. x

AT LAST!!!  Finally getting this review done...honestly, this week has been a trial! Financial problems getting sprung on me, kids not feeling well, then I've had a stonker of a headache for the past couple of days and wanted to do nothing more than hide in a dark room...BUT, at last I'm getting it done :0)

I noticed there wasn't a question regarding what our first impressions of the product were, and I feel it's a very important part of buying a product-if something doesn't instantly appeal to you somehow, you're not going to even pick it up are you? So I've added a question, hope you don't mind!

1.A. What were your first impressions on receiving the product?

When this parcel arrived, it was like Christmas for me. I was expecting maybe a couple of small pots with a brush-but this was so much more! All the products were housed in a sturdy, good quality cardboard box, and not just one or two! Altogether I was pleasantly surprised to find 4 decent-sizes pots and 1 smaller pot of mineral powders. Alongside these were 3 fantastic quality brushes for application. I was delighted to find a 'How-To' dvd ( although, to be honest, I did wonder if it was necessary) Rating 10/10

LET THE TESTING BEGIN!

1. How easy was it to apply?

I found this really easy to apply, and LOVE the brushes. The smaller concealer brush fits the contour of your eyes perfectly, and the mineral powder is applied evenly thanks to the quality of the big, buffing brushes. It left my skin soft, and was definitely not 'caked' in powder. The 'Tap,Twirl,Buff' technique shown in the DVD makes it easy to get the results you want, using just a small amount of bareMinerals. Rating 9/10

2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful?

I had a good look at all the different powders, and decided to watch the DVD, just to make sure I used it the way I was supposed to, and was glad I did. Although it's slightly cheesy American-ad style, the dvd clearly explains what each powder is suited for, and the best way to apply. The DVD  was definitely helpful. Rating 9/10

3. How did it feel upon the skin?

This mineral powder feels lovely on your skin. It gives you even, smooth coverage while still letting your skin look natural. This is the FIRST concealer product I have EVER, EVER used that covers my dark eye circles without looking either caked-on and unnatural or just not obvious at all!  I even used some of the Sunny Bisque concealer on 2 small marks on my legs, and it covered them too.

4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?)

Another plus to this product, is how adjustable the colour is. The 5 pots are all slightly different shades, so easy to match to your skin tone. The light Mineral Veil can lighten, while the pot of Warmth can darken if you need to. I used this with my 'normal' skin, and also after I'd applied fake tan, and this product worked well throughout.

5. Was it value for money?

Although £45 is a lot of money, you do get your moneys' worth. Although the tubs of powder aren't huge, you really don't need to use tons at  time, and the good quality brushes ensure good application every time. Ad to that the fact you're including concealer too, then I would definitely say it's worth the expense.

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used?

I've bought 2 other well-known brands of mineral foundation, and was expecting fantastic results, as the advertising at the time was singing their praises-but I didn't like the slightly powdered-on look they gave me. But bareMinerals has changed my view of mineral powder make-up. This makes my skin look healthier and I can't express how happy I am to have a decent concealer!  The first time I used bareMinerals, I have to admit I did have doubts as it was quite fiddly with different pots&loose powder, but was delighted to find that within a day or two I had my whole make-up routine down to about 5 mins. As the Summer Bisque is such a even base colour I started using it instead of eyeshadow, and only add  eyeliner, mascara, bit of 'Warmth' on my cheeks and some gloss, then I'm good to go!  Rating 10/10

Just wanted to say a BIG 'Thank You' to the TalkPerfection gang for giving me the chance to testdrive bareMinerals, as you've introduced me to a great product. Hopefully one day, I will be lucky enough to try another fab beauty find!

All the best to all you lovely TalkPerfection gang ;0)

Thank you for giving me the chance to try Bareminerals, its been great for these hot days. Sorry for the late feedback.

1. How easy was it to apply? I dont think anyone else has mentioned this but I had a few problems removing the stickers on the inside of the tubs, I had to get scissors to remove them which I thought was alot of messing around. After getting to grips with all the tubs and product names I had a few practices before watching the dvd, I did find the hand book more useful. It was really easy to apply and I got better at it each time I used it. I struggled to use it before work as I found it quite time consuming having to open and deal with 4 tubs but was great for nights out and weekends. Its a must to make sure you use the right brushes as it really does make a diference. 8/10
2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful?  I think it would be better with a complete step by step guide. I did find the book easier and quicker for explaining what each item was. 8/10
3. How did it feel upon the skin? It felt so light on my skin and was much more breathable than my usual foundation. You do need to wait a good while after applying moisturiser as the powder tends to stick and go dark in certain places. It didnt slide off in the heat like some foundations can and I looked fresh faced for hours. It did find it sat in the few lines I have on occasions and I noticed it more when I had used the concealer but that might be my fault applying it wrongly.  9/10
4.Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?) I usually pick medium beige foundations but I found this to be quite light compared to the shades I normally use. I had to use the warmth each time, doing that gave me the desired colour and I loved the sunkissed look. I didnt think much to the concealer as it didnt hide my dark under eyes but it was useful for taking away the redness I sometimes get on my nose and cheeks. The powders gave great coverage and its good you can build up without it feeling any heavier. I had comments on looking fresh faced and I noticed myself the coverage stayed on and lasted much longer than my usual brands. The mineral viel was great for finishing it all off and kept the shine away all day 9/10
5. Was it value for money? The starter pack seems quite steep but you do get value for money with all the products and especially the brushes which are amazing. I think it would be beneficial if a blusher was included as it was the one thing I had to use another brand of. I dont think I would pay this amount in the future as I think personally I would use quite alot of the products and you dont really get much in each tub. If I had to choose one product to splash out on it would be the warmth which I loved and I could maybe use this on top of my normal cream foundation like a bronzer. The brushes are the best ive ever used so depending on the individual prices I probably would buy again although I wont need to for a long while as they dont get clogged up like some others can.  8/10
6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used?
I have only ever used No 7 minerals blush so dont have much to compare it to as the kit didnt include blusher.

Hi,

Well I've finally got round to writing up my trial for the bare minerals, hope I'm not too late?  I just wanted to get to grips with the product and use it for a variety of occassions.

So, here goes...

1. How easy was it to apply?

I'm not sure if it was just me, but as a first time user of the products I think I was a little slower than most.  During my first attempt, I think I must have looked at the brushes and the pots a dozen times whilst flicking through the instruction and trying to translate the German help DVD.  I finally got there and once I knew what I was doing, I think I was ok and managed to get the hang of it.

It was a little difficult getting the bigger brushes into the pots, but I managed it.  Overall, it was pretty easy to apply and didn't really require much effort at all.   Rating: 6/10

2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful?

For me, the instruction guide wasn't that easy to follow - I'd have preffered a step 1 with pictures, step 2 etc and so on.  The information was all there, it just could have been displayed a little easier.  Rating: 4/10

3. How did it feel upon the skin?

After applying the bare minerals, my skin felt velvetly and soft. To the touch, it felt like I had no make up onm but to me, I could feel like a light dusting of powder on my face.  People commented that I looked refreshed and natural.  Rating: 8/10

4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?)

I tried the product both as a day make-up and as an evening make-up and I found it difficult to distinguish between the two.  In the end, I mixed 2 of the shades to get a slighter darker colour for the evening which seemed to work well for me.

I also tried it when I had a few blemishes and it took a little longer for me to cover them, I'm not sure that the concealor worked as well as the other products. Rating: 7/10

5. Was it value for money?

I'm still a little unsure as to whether this product is good value for money.  I think if you've had an instore demonstration and you understand what you're doing from the offset along with all the benefits, then it's definitley great vlaue for money.  Even the brushes alone are a bargain.  I think if you're just buying it from the shelf having had no other experience of it, then I would be less inclined to purchase it.  Rating: 8/10

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used?

This was my first time of ever using this type of product so I'm unable to compare.

Overall, I have enjoyed using this product and I will continue to use it as I think I still have a bit of practice to do. As to whether I'll ever go back to normal foundation, I think I may, only because it's a quicker, more conveinent option.

Thanks Talk Perfection for giving me the opportunity to test the Bare Minerals product, it's been a  great fun.

Love Di x

OK, here's mine! Hope you're all enjoying your products.

1. How easy was it to apply?
It's incredibly easy to apply, in terms of the actual action of brushing foundation onto your skin. However, this isn't the kind of makeup you can easily apply on the go - as you have to tap powder into the lid, you may also want to mix your foundations, put the lid on a stable surface, swirl and buff, clean up any powder that's flying around etc. I know there is an all-in-one type brush you can get that makes it literally applicable with one hand. 8/10

2. Was the 'how to guide' useful?
It was super useful, especially watching a DVD of Lesley (the bareMinerals CEO) and other 'real' women doing it their way. I noticed that Lesley Blodgett 'buffs' the bareMinerals in a different way that I do, so I've started using her technique and I rather like it. I was also rather surprised at how little minerals she used. 9/10

3. How did it feel upon the skin?
bareMinerals feels incredible on the skin, there's no doubt about it. Well to be precise, it feels like nothing - just weightless, no matter how many layers you put on. 10/10

4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?)
I went for Tan, because I previously had tried Medium Golden and sometimes it looked a little pale/off for my olive complexion. The Tan was slightly dark however, though not far off - it will be perfect once I get my summer glow on - so I mixed it with the Medium Golden and got a perfect combination. It's such a clever idea to give you a couple of shades to blend until you have the right shade. In terms of coverage, I think it was really adequate for giving my skin a smooth and even look. I used to use a separate liquid concealer, but now I've tried applying the bareMinerals as a concealer for spots and scars, as demonstrated in the DVD, and I must say it works with 90% effectiveness. The one thing I must say is that the Mineral Veil has helped me with my shine. Previously when using only bareMinerals, I would get a shine around 2 hours later. Now with a layer of MV on top it helps to keep the shine at bay for longer. 9/10

5. Was it value for money?
Definitely. I would have paid £45 upfront for the starter kit. You get so much out of it - including two incredible brushes, a foundation that lasts ages because you don't need to use that much, an eyeshadow base that doubles as concealer, a bronzer, and a mattifying Mineral Veil. £45 may seem a lot of money, but there really is no point being cheap about the products you use on your skin. 10/10

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used?
I have used Sheercover before. I've found that Sheercover gives me a more matte finish and prevents my T-zone from glowing like a beacon throughout the day. However, now that I have used Mineral Veil that seems to have solved my problem. It is nevertheless extra money to fork out ;)  8/10

Thank you Jenni for giving me this opportunity . This product has changed my life. Having had a major problem with psoriasis and sensitivity to make up I had given up wearing it completely , that is unitl this trial.

1. How easy was it to apply?  Extremely ! Quick and easy . I used very little product and kept buffing until I got a great finish. The small amount on the brush was the hardest part to master , as I kept   overloading the brushes, once I got that right it was easyI don't do complicated with anything so was relieved that this easy to apply , the simple tap and brush routine once mastered  was great for me. 10/10

2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful?

The Booklet was great for an instant quick reference  as I am very impatient and like to scan read and then play. The DVD gave   much clearer information source and was like having a make up lesson in the home.  Loved the simplicity of the swirl, tap bluff technique.
3. How did it feel upon the skin? Absolutely fantastic. If I apply any conventional make up my skin is irritated almost immediately with foundation sticking to my dry patches and looking awful. This was not the case with this product, I did not feel as though I had anything on my skin apart from my moisturiser. I wore this all day without any adverse reaction . I also tried to sleep in it last night to see how I would get on and no problem at all. It feels amazing. I cannot wait to try the other products in  the range.
4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?) The shade match was perfect. I have olive skin and had the medium set. I found mixing a combination of the two colours worked best for me without giving me too much warmth. I used the tan all over the face with a warmth around the outside to tone , this looked great . It gave me a radiant look  and took the pale pasty appearance off my skin . It also concealed my dry flaky patches perfectly. I felt human.
5. Was it value for money?I believe the starter set to be £45 . I think this was excellent value for money for all the products and brushes. I have paid more for brushes alone in the past and they have been no where near the same quality.  Used correctly this product will go a very long way and is as I said earlier Superb value for money. I have today purchased the tanning product and will happily purchase more of the range now I know it is great value and does what it says on the tin. For somone who has psoriasis this is superb. I manage  a hair salon and would willingly promote this range to my clients. Infact I have had so many compliments this last week about how great  I look , this must be down to the fact I have been wearing Bare Minerals as no one has seen me with make up on in a long time .
 6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used? I have only tried one claimingly mineral product previously, and it must have had some additional extra in it as it certainly did not sit on my skin without irritation. No comparison whatsoever to this one. 10/10

How Easy was it to Apply?

With a bit of practice it was pretty easy to apply. The brushes were really effective in providing coverage. I'd bought the foundation previously and I wasn't impressed, I realise now that it's because I hadn't been applying the product properly and I hadn't been using the right brushes! Over the years I've used many different brands of foundation - this product has really good 'blendability' especially around the jaw area. 10/10

Was the 'How to Guide' useful?

Yup - I wouldn't have been able to use the product effectively without it. My only criticism would be that there were no dark skinned women on the DVD and they all had quite good skin. It would have been nice to see them covering blemishes or realistic dark circles. 8/10

How Did it Feel Upon the Skin?

I can't fault it. Light, breathable...all good! 10/10

Did You Get the Results You Wanted?

I am happy with the results. I've got dark circles (a result of having a 2 year old who still won't sleep through the night!), some large pores and blemishes around the jaw area. BareMinerals provided good coverage although I felt that it showed up some of the lines which are starting to appear around my eye area. I wasn't too keen on the bisque, it didn't blend as well as the foundations so I stopped using it. I have black skin and it can be very difficult to get the right shade but this was spot on - it didn't have the usual greying effect that many foundations have. 9/10

Value for Money

If you find a product that really works and gives you an extra bit of confidence then it's got to be worth every penny :0)

How Does it Compare to Other Mineral Products You Have Used?

As I said earlier, I have bought BareMinerals before but I didn't know how to use it and I think it was the wrong shade (the sales assistant didn't know what she was doing). I've never bought any other mineral products - I think I'll be sticking to this one.10/10

Thanks Jenni. I'm now a walking advert for BareMinerals!

1. How easy was it to apply?  Very easy as long as you watch the dvd first. 9/10

2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful? It was invaluable! I would have definatley applied it incorrectly if I hadn't have watched it! 9/10

3. How did it feel upon the skin? It felt very light at first but after 10 minutes my skin started to feel prickley then became very intchy. I think I have had a reaction to it as my sjkin is now a bit red and inflammed for which I have had to take anti allergy tablets to see if they help. 8/10 then 1/10

4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?) The coverage was not good i tried a few layers and got up to 10 then gave up. I removed it all and tried again just using the medium shade which was a good matche but the overall result was awful. My eyes looked very crepey ( above and below) My chin looked like it had big lines running down it and although i have quite enlarged pores the looked even worse. I asked my friend to watch the dvd and then apply it for me but the same results were achived. My skin looks dry and I look about 60 instaed of 37. (I have photographs to show this if anyone wishes to see. I must admit I am greatly disappointed. 2/10

5. Value for money If you are young or one of the luckly ones to have already great and flawless skin then this is for you as you would only need a tiny bit and it would therefore last you quite possibly months. 10/10

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used. I must admit it did give a lot better coverage than previous brands I tried in the past but I must regretfully admit that this product is not for me. 5/10

first of all i must say i am very happy i got the chance to test this set. i was overwhelmed by the bare minerals 'starter kit'. it was an absolute guide to natural looking make-up and came with the three separate brushes - i loved it.

1. How easy was it to apply?

i watched the dvd before applying it for the first time and i must say the 'swirl, tap, buff' technique is really helpful in getting the right amount of powder onto your face. i really liked that there was a technique description, otherwise i might have ended up looking ridiculous. the brushes in the set come in various sizes and have different uses. i loved the concealer brush, it was very soft and gave me precision in applying the concealer powder. the other two brushes had different bristles which helped in choosing the right amount of coverage for the powder. i was very happy with that; the ony drawback is that using the technique as described, and applying several layers, takes quite a lot of time. i am used to quick make-up.

7/10

2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful?

the guide was excellent, as i said i watched that first - that made me understand what the warmth powder is for and how to apply it. it is really dark, so i wasn;t very sure about it, but when i used te right brush and the technique it gave me a very light, glowing, sun-kissed look. a very good touch on a hot summer day. the guie is essential to understanding how to apply the make-up; i don't wear make-up all the time, so i realised how wrongly i had applied powder until now. the technique described, although overemphasized, is essential in getting the right coverage.

10/10

3. How did it feel upon the skin?

the powder itself is very fine, especially the mineral veil which i loved the most - you can never apply too much of that; it's a great finishing touch. the two shades of powder were a perfect match for my skin and i discovered that even if i apply several layers, it will not give me an articifial, 'heavy make-up' look. the technique help control the amount of powder you use, and the brushes assure that the product is evenly distributed on the face. my face was perfectly happy with the make-up [i had read some reviews before and one consumer complained she got a terrible allergy from the products, so i was quite scared of what might happen, but it was perfectly fine] and i felt like i am glowing.

9/10

4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?)

i was very happy with the shades i received, they were a perfect match for my skin; I have quite fair skin and the two shades i got were perfect. having a fair powder and a slighter darker one, i could combine them for the ideal shade. this is great, especially if i get slighlty tanned during the summer - i won't risk a shade mismatch. i loved the mineral veil - you can never applytoo much of it. it is very fair and particularly fine, so it just gives the skin a nice soft touch. i found i used the concealer powder the most, because i simply fell in love with the brush and the shade. it is perfect for the darker circles around my eyes - i have a liquid one as well, but that doesn't do the subtle job bare minerals do. i am not very sure about the coverage, though, as even when applying several layers, the slight imperfections on my face did not seem to be any better concealed. the overall look of my complexion did seem to get slightly more even, but i did not look anywhere near the examples on the DVD.

also, i don't know if this make-up is suitable for me, as all the women in the DVD looked around 40. i am only 22, and i'm worried this product might be for older ages than mine.

6/10

5. Was it value for money?

i was quite surpised to see the set would cost  £45. it seems quite pricey, especially for a brand that i for one had never heard about before. but the kit does contain several products - i guess if you were to get them separately they would exceed £45. overall, i don't know if i would buy the entire kit anyway - i seem to be doing fine without one shade or the warmth powder.

6/10

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used?

the powder itself is very light and very fine - I have tried the Maybelline Pure make-Up Mineral powder before and it's nowhere near so refined; actually, it gives a much more artificial look, and the shade is not a perfect match. but the bare minerals powder is absolutey angelic. this really helps with coverage and getting the right hue for my skin. compared to the other products i've tried, this seems better, though.

1. How easy was it to apply?

It's not as easy to apply as a liquid foundation. It's more like a loose powder. The correct technique as out lined in the guides is relatively easy to master with a bit of trial and error. Should have done my trial and erroring without a black dress on that I'd planned to wear out! I applied the girls make as they are a heavy handed pair as 'fake tan gate' showed!       6/10

2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful?

Yes, explained the technique.  Not mad keen on having to watch a DVD before I can apply make up though!               8/10

3. How did it feel upon the skin?

Lovely, very light my foster daughters and I are converted! I find normal make up cloying on my skin, but once this was on I could forget it was there.              10/10

4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?)

Not quite, despite spending time going over my flaws with the concealer I found my thread veins and high colour still showed up and to get close to hiding the completely the make up started to look quite heavy.

Also disappointed not to get any blusher, eyeshdow lip colour samples to try with the foundation so we could try the full mineral make up experience. Mineral make up goes so far it would only have taken the tiniest amount (like the primer) to be able to go completely mineral make up one day.

I was very suprised with the foundation shades- the Nearly Light was much lighter on my skin than the Light! So much so that I'm sure I was given the products the wrong way round and this would make me a bit worrried about which to buy in the future! The Nearly light was a lovely match for all 3 of us. The Light had very yellow undertones.

The mineral veil was gorgeous. I love, we all loved it, but me especially as it made my skin look much younger. How did I live without it?       7/10

5. Was it value for money?

I have to be honest I would not pay £45 for foundation, no matter how lovely it is, or how long it lasts!        3/10

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used?

I tried a friends mineral make up that she buys from Ebay- the natural minerals mixed with organic serums to make a liquid foundation and I found that was easier to apply, gave a better coverage, and at only £16 a bottle is cheaper too, so I'll be buying that. The veil though is stunning and will be going on my Christmas pressie list for the Hubby to get me!          7/10

1).  How easy was it to apply ?

I got in a bit of a jam with it when I first used it, as couldn't wait to watch the video!

However, after reading the booklet and watching the vid, a few practices, and with the 'Swirl, Tap, Buff' technique I was in business! It is indeed very easy to apply once you get the hang of it.

Rating:  8/10

2).  Was the 'How To' Guide Useful ?

Yes, I found it very useful indeed. The video was interesting and showed how to properly apply the products and not end up looking like a clown like I did when I first tried it! : D

Rating:  9/10

3).  How did it feel upon the skin?

I was really pleasantly surprised at how light this felt on my skin. I'm used to wearing liquid foundations with good coverage such as Clinique, and have never used mineral powders before. I was really impressed with it's staying power and the fact it didn't slide off in the heat like some foundations are prone to.

Rating:  9/10

4).  Did you get the results you wanted ?

(Desired Coverage ?  Shade Match ?)

I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of coverage I could get from these powders actually. I have some broken veins around my nose and the powder covered them quite well, but the next time I applied it I used some of the concealer first. This looked a lot better.

I really liked the fact I could disguise my flaws with these products, but still reveal my own skin. My skin looked radiant and virtually flawless!

The shade I ordered was 'Medium Beige', which went well with the tone of my skin and the slight tan I have, allowing my tan to show through which was good!

Rating:  9/10

5).  Was it value for Money ?

Yes... very much so as it was free !   : D

Seriously though, I am pretty skint at the moment as I've been out of work for a couple of months, but if I was working I wouldn't think twice about buying it. It also seems to last for ages, so all in all I think it is worth the £45. I'm going to try and get someone to buy it for me for my birthday next month as I don't want to live without it now!!!

Rating:  8/10

6).  How does it compare with other mineral brands you have used ?

I tried a little of the L'Oreal mineral powder in store the other day when I had no foundation on, and have to say that Bare Minerals is far superior!

I am really happy to have been included in this trial, many thanks indeed. It was lovely to use this kit, and now I'm hooked!

Rating:  9/10.

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to try this product. I really loved it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a more natural, radiant look that also cover imperfections. The concealer and mineral veil are my 'hero' products, they are absolutely fabulous.

1. How easy was it to apply? Before watching the DVD or reading the booklet (yes I KNOW, but I was just excited to try it!) I had been trying to apply it with too much on my brush, now however I understand all about the Swirl, tap and buff technique! ..You take a little powder out of the tub with the brush, swirl it around on the lid, and then tap off the excess powder, making sure you cant see any on the brush before buffing your skin with the brush in a circular motion. I do have to give the brush quite a tap or two and build up the coverage very slowly but that does give you far more control over how much you want to wear. Did take a few practice runs though and you DO have to wait a good 15 mins after applying moisturizer or you find yourself with darker areas where it has ‘stuck’ to the residual moisturizer.

I liked that they gave you three brushes to keep the powders separate. You swirl the brushes over your skin in a circular motion which soon becomes second nature. There is also a multi task concealer in the box plus a bronzer, and a really light finishing powder called a mineral veil which I really liked. All in all you have everything you need to keep you looking fab for a month or two if not more ..Rating 8/10

2.Was the "how to guide" useful?  The ‘How to’ guide was great. It comprised of a DVD and a booklet. The booklet was very useful and explained the three steps to application - Swirl, Tap and Buff, which is very easy to do. The DVD was very interesting and explained how to use the different powder shades, and it was fun to watch the ladies before and after shots. I am very pale so one of my colours would be more suited to the summer when I have a light tan but the palest shade was spot on and the mineral veil was a gorgeously pale shade. I aso like the fact you can mix the two colours and maybe even add bronzer if you wanted to to get the warmth or shade that is perfect for you.  Rating 8/10

3.How did it feel upon the skin?..Gorgeous. Very light and you almost forget you are wearing it. My skin did not feel ‘covered up’ and I felt like my skin could breathe and it stayed on really well as my cleanser can testify to at the end of the day!..Rating 9/10

4.Did you get the result you wanted? I really liked it. I thought it was a very fresh and light way to wear foundation. I do think that for me personally, in the evenings I might want more coverage. I liked the concealer though I would probably would have used a lighter shade personally, even though I have the lightest kit. I think it stayed on well during the working day and evening at home though I blotted and added more mineral veil at lunchtime, it still felt and looked good on my skin. I just think that for a night out dancing etc I would want a slightly heavier coverage to match the heavier eye make up I wear then. I really liked how the product gave me a healthy, radiant look; almost natural but with a very even skin tone and no dark circles! More impressed that I thought I would be to be honest and haven’t stopped telling everyone what I am using now and have already mentioned it on several forums I post on, that is how much I like it! Rating 8.5/10

5 Value for money?  Apparently the box that we trialed would have cost £45 which took my breath away a little but then when you consider you have large pots of two ‘foundation’ powders, one large mineral veil finishing type powder, a large bronzer and a concealer. Plus of course the three kabuki style brushes which bought alone would probably be well over £25. I am not sure I would buy the kit in its entirety, though I would buy a single pot of the lightest foundation and the mineral veil again definitely, I am converted, especially for the summer. However, there is so much product in each pot I am not sure I will need to buy replacements for months. Rating 9/10

6 How does it compare to other baremineral products you have used? I have used the Rimmel version and despite buying the palest one, I really found it too dark for my skin tone in the winter, though in the summer it works better. It also doesn’t come with such detailed instructions as this kit. I have also had a tester of an Avon version and I usually like Avon products, but just didn’t get on with this, so out of the two I have tried so far, I really think this kit is the best I have seen or tried. I would recommend to everyone to try it, it really is fabulous quality, gives great results and is fun to use! Rating 9/10

FANTASTIC!!

How easy was it to apply - VERY!! I wear make up everyday and at first I thought it may take longer than usual to apply correctly but it was sooo easy, swirl, tap, buff. It was a great time to try it out as my skin had a few blemishes. When I sat in front of the mirror looking all shiney and a bit red i was doubtful it would give me the coverage i was used too, but immediately i saw a difference.  The two most useful products are Bisque (great to cover blemishes) and Mineral Veil to finish. I have fair skin and the colours sent were great. 9/10

Was the "how to" guide useful - yes. Although I was confused which bruch was which at first. I watched the guide and tried it out at the same time. I only needed to watch it once as it is easy to do and remember. 8/10

How did it feel upon the skin? I wear make up all the time, so for me it felt no different. 9/10

Did you get the result you wanted? Definately. As i said above i was a little concerned over the coverage it would give me, but just by applying Bisque the difference was noticeable. Once I had applied the foundation my skin looked even, natural and fresh. The Prime Time primer was so good I went and bought more, as I tend to get a very shiney T zone.  I have been impressed by how shine free it kept me during the day and I have only once reapplied Mineral Veil as a touch up at midday.  9/10

Value for money? Definately. I usually pay around £10 for my cream foundation, but i will definately be switching to BM, as I use less and get better coverage.  As i was so impressed and kept going on about it, my husband went out and bought the Eyes, Lips and Cheeks starter kit too!  9/10

How does it compare to other Bare mineral products you have used? This is the first time I have tried them, although i was really desperate to try BM but worried about the coverage. I am so impressed! 10/10

How easy was it to apply?
It was pretty easy to "swirl, tap, buff" the product onto my face. It's supposed to be a lot quicker and easier than other types of foundation, and I do find that it's quicker to apply all over my face. 9/10

Was the ‘how to guide’ useful?
Yes it was very userful. It contained lots of helpful images and detailed instructions. 9/10

How did it feel upon the skin?
I had wanted it to make me feel fresh and help my skin stay matte. But it felt like a thick layer of cream was upon my face. I read that the Bare Minerals foundation was meant to look like powder but feel like cream when applied. I guess that is probably why it made me feel that way. It felt like my skin couldn't breathe properly and after a couple of hours, the colour was a bit cakey. 5/10

Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?)

Yes the colour was pretty close to my skin colour, but I would probably need to visit a counter to find my perfect match. 7/10

Value for money
Considering this is meant to be worth £45, I do find it a bit in the high-end. The Mineral Veil is very useful to me though, and perhaps I can consider buying individual items instead of in a set. 6/10

How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used.
The only other brand I have used is e.l.f. and their foundation doesn't feel as thick as Bare Minerals. They don't have as many shades though. I do feel Bare Minerals is definitely more high-end than e.l.f. 7/10

1. How easy was it to apply?

Actually very easy to apply once you get the hang of it - in fact it's pretty hard to get wrong as so natural looking when it goes on.

2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful?

I found the dvd ok! - I sat and watched the dvd with the box on my lap - and the 1st time I watched it I didn't know which tub she was using corresponded with with  tub I had in box the writing on the bottom of the tubs is TINY - but watched it again and made more sense.

3. How did it feel upon the skin?

When I watched the dvd I was expecting the brushes to be really soft but they aren't so applying was rougher than using my usual brush. The actual product on the skin - being someone who rarely wears makeup - I was aware I was wearing some but it was alot nicer than any other form of foundation I've used before even expensive brands like Estee Lauder.

Although I did still want to cleanse my face as soon as I got home - I then slab a ton of moisturiser because I've earned every line on my face I don't want to assist in any way!!

4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?)

I got tan and medium tan and so match shade brilliant for this time of year whilst I'm tanned but if I was to continue to use in winter I'd have to go a shade lighter.

This product is AMAZING at covering my dark circles round my eyes - the best product i've ever ever ever used - forget touche eclat which I've sworn by for years - this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better!!

5. Was it value for money?

I would not consider spending £45 a month on makeup! It is way above my budget - but these tubs would last me longer than a month.  Saying that I wouldn't have to buy brushes again for long time but would be disappointed if paid alot for these brushes as they are very bristly.

Value for money is a very depending on your budget so a difficult question to answer.

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used?

I've never tried before so can't compare like for like.

Thanks again for great chance to try this product - I do love trying new things especially if they make my life easier or a nice little something special.

1. How easy was it to apply? Applying bareMinerals make up was the same as applying my traditional make up. The big difference was that I only needed a small amount to achieve full coverage. With bareMinerals, a little product goes a long way and you can keep layering your make up until you get the desired effect. 8/10

2. Was the 'how to guide' useful? The 'how to guide' came in handy when I needed to ensure that I was using the correct technique. It sounds complicated but it's quite simple, all you need to do is "Swirl, Tap and Buff." 8/10

3. How did it feel upon the skin? It felt divinely! My skin was luminous and glowing. The natural pigments that bareMinerals contains blend easily onto my skin and provided superior coverage for me. Especially because my skin is dry so using bareMinerals kept it hydrated all day. I forgot that I was wearing make up because it really does look as if you were born with flawless skin. I absolutely loved it! My friends and family told me I looked as if I just got back from my holiday. 10/10

4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?) I was pleased with the results I achieved. I got superior coverage from using my bareMinerals SPF15 foundation in Medium Tan. I found that by blending a little of the foundation with the Warmth, which is my hero product that I now can't do without, I achieved my perfect match. I used my Flawless Face brush to apply the mineral foundation so that the minerals were distributed evenly and my face didn't look as if I was wearing a mask. I had some scarring from chicken pox a few years ago so I used the Light stroke brush which has short, firm bristles to apply the bareMinerals Multi-Tasking honey bisque which also acts as a concealer to cover dark circles and other skin imperfections. I then used my Full Flawless Face brush and lightly dust on my tinted Mineral Veil all over the face for a fresh look. I finished by using the Warmth on the areas of my face that the sunlight would normally hit, such as the apple of my cheeks, my forehead, eyelids, chin and bridge of my nose. I looked amazing and felt confident, ready to start my day with a spring in my step. I have no reservations in recommending bareMinerals to all my family and friends. 10/10

5. Was it value for money? It's good value for money because it's a superior quality product that has no fillers, no dyes, harsh chemicals or oils. It's make up so gentle, you can sleep in it. It won't damage the skin or cause any infections or irritation and is kind to sensitive skin. However if you're trying to reach a wider market a price point of around £29.99 would sell a much higher volume of products as it's a recession and everyone is feeling the pinch. But I would definitely buy this product again. I loved it so much I've put it up on my Facebook profile trying to get my friends and family to buy it and try it for themselves. 9/10

6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used? Compared to other mineral brands I've used I have to say it's the "QUEEN" of mineral make-up. It does everything that I needed, the results I achieved were superb, I will use it again and again and again. I applaud Leslie Blodgett for bringing this wonderful product to the masses. I love this product, I endorse bareMinerals and it is far superior than any other mineral make up I had previously tried including Sheer Cover (which you really have to fork out for) and L'OREAL Paris. So everyone get to Boots and Superdrug or go online and pick up your bareMinerals GET STARTED COMPLEXION 8-PIECES Plus exclusive bonus KIT today! 9/10

Well - been trialing bare minerals for a few days but with it being so hot I still find my tropical moments are making my skin look sweaty and I look forward to cleansing my face as soon as I walk in the door. Maybe when it cools down more I'll enjoy using makeup.

As for application - once you get the hang of it - the time spent applying is reduced but can't say it looks anything like on the video! can still see imperfections - maybe more experimenting is needed - but other make up is easier to get just right first time.

Did you try the "Swirl, Tap, Buff" technique? Also a good tip for making your bareMinerals last longer in hot weather is to put on the bareMinerals Mineral Veil using the Flawless Application Face Brush before your bareMinerals SPF15 Foundation to deepen your foundation color and warm up your skin tone. It's in the bareMinerals Get Started Manual on page 3. Hope that helped.

1. How easy was it to apply? Very! I thought it would be difficult, but it was quite the reverse and quick to apply. Rating: 9/10
2. Was the ‘how to guide’ useful? The instructions seemed lengthy, but weren't hard to follow. In fact I was surprised how quickly I managed to apply the make-up. Rating 8/10
3. How did it feel upon the skin? Lovely and fresh... like I wasn't wearing any make-up at all. Rating 9/10
4. Did you get the results you wanted? (Desired coverage? Shade match?) Yes. It looked flawless, and covered my normally flushed skin. I felt very confident wearing it. I couldn't see any shade differences to my natural colour. Rating 9/10
5. Value for money. Good, for the results that I got. But will have to use sparingly, as I am currently not employed and am watching my pennie. Rating 8/10
6. How does it compare to other mineral brands that you have used. I haven't used any before. Rating 8/10

Thank you Jenny for allowing me to take part in the trial - I really enjoyed it!

HI

Just received my parcel - got to say quite excited at chance to look like a human again. I opened my box to find 3 brushes, 5 pots, a guide and dvd - my first thought was where I am going to keep my new treasure as bathroom shelves already full - but a minor problem. Watched the dvd and second thought is god that will take ages!! my time in the morning is quite short as have to walk my dog before work  - but I'm sure once I get the hang of using the product it won't take so long. Call me dim but still not 100% sure why I've got 5 pots but I'll watch video again tonight - I probably missed something.

Tomorrow is D day - so I'll let you know how I get on with it all when I'm in a rush - and HOPEFULLY reporting back on everyone saying how fabulous I look!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Jenni for giving me the chance to try bareminerals..A great product I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants that fresh smooth radiant look...:)

1.How easy was it to apply..Have to say after watching the dvd (which helped lots) it took a few shots at trying to apply
getting the right amount on the brush, but it was pretty easy to do, your told how to work the brush over your skin in circular motions etc..which was very easy to do..you are given 3 different size brushes for applying each different powder.... then you have a multi task concealer my colour was bisque, for brown/red spots or blemishes and imperfection, a warmth all over face glow , to make your skin look healthier also 2 different medium colours for my skin, one with a slight beige tone, I was able to mix both beige colours to get the perfect match for my skin and then lastly  a mineral veil you put on at the end to minimize fine lines and pores and to keep your skin fresh all day. ..Rating 8/10

2.Was the "how to guide" useful?..There was a booklet and a dvd..the booklet told you how to put the powder on the brush which was a very easy 3 steps..Swirl, Tap and Buff, which is very easy too do..taking a little powder out of the tub on the brush, you Swirl it around on the lid, then you Tap off the excess powder, making sure you cant see any on the brush, then easily Buff the brush and powder over your skin..The dvd was great to watch, seeing before and after ladies, also seeing how to apply the make up again, how and wear to apply each different powder you were given,I would probably have been a little confused with the different powders and how and wear to apply them all if it wasn't for the dvd..the dvd is a great help.. Rating 8/10

3.How did it feel upon the skin?..Beautiful..very light to the touch, does not feel all cloggy on the skin, and definitely made my skin feel like it could breath..unlike other foundations where you can feel it all day, even still tacky at times on your skin, this product actually made you feel like you were not wearing much make up what so ever..Rating 9/10

4.Did you get the result you wanted?..For me it looked very fresh, an every day kind of make up.. for going out through the day, it covered my dark circles under my eyes,The colour I chose was MEDIUM..which did work well with my skin tone, the product evened off my skin tone all over, made me look "radiant"  an all over freshness...but for going out in the evening..I wouldn't say it is a product I would use, maybe I would use it for a base, then maybe a little bronzer over just to give more of a tanned glow although you get a warm powder for giving you more of a colour, it just wasn't for me. Rating 7/10

5 Value for money?..The pack I got would have cost £45..I have to be honest and say I find that a little steep to pay, however the product was good, did feel great upon your skin, was very easy to apply, but as I mentioned earlier it did make my skin look lovely through the day, and you could again use it for going out at night if your not one for glamming up too much..thinking about it, yes it is value for money..you do not use much of the product at all, and it does do what it says on the packet so to speak..so yes it is value for money. Rating 8/10

6 How does it compare to other baremineral products you have used?
I tried a friend of mines she purchased off ebay, a cheaper version of this..it didn't come with very good instructions, the colour was pretty pale..and I have to say was no match with this product, so I suppose its true what they say."you get what you pay for"..so I would say this is definitely the better option. Rating 8/10
