Alopecia Areata

Angela Wilson-Stone

Hello, forgive me i am new to this site.

Alopecia areata, where do i start.  I am 44 and suffered this three years ago.  Luckily only two bald patches and they grew bak.  Here it goes again!  For the last four months its been falling out again in the same place but more severe and lots of thining all over this time.Stubble all over my scalp. Done the doctors, blood tests and dermotologist, all bloods negaive, doctor and dermo useless!  I have now been taking Perfectil triple for about three/four weeks, I havent noticed any difference yet and i no its not a cure, but could help. I decided to find a good, experienced and recommended hairstylist. Last week she took 5-6inch off my hair, ive always had it long, she coloured it, as it had not been coloured since march (toooooo frightened) and i came out feeling great!  Still bald at the back though and im still losing hair, not solved the problem but made me feel nice. Going back friday to have a treatment etc. Just wondered anyone out there suffering in silence who would like to share comments, help, advice, whatever.  I havent talked to anyone sharing my problem just been sent backwards and forwards with the docs and dermo and still no help......

Hi Angela i so feel for you that no one can help i find that shameful,If conventional medicine cant help you why dont you ask your doctor to refer you to a Homeopathic hospital and the NHS will pay for it,I am not saying it will work but i think it is worth a go hopefully you have a understanding doctor after all this is affecting you emotionally,And after all thats why we have the NHS and if they cant fix the problem then its their care of duty to provide you with the best possible care available,Any time you need a chat I'm here sometimes its easier to talk to a stranger,I know that feeling only to well i have been through quite a lot in my life and its not always easy to talk to the ones who are closest to you,Take care Jackie

Hi there i hope you dont mind me asking but by any chance do you live near electricity pylons its just i know of six girls who live in the same street not 30 yards away from a electricity pylon and they all have Alopecia,I just find that to much of a coincidence,I understand what you are going through as one of the girls i know is only 22 she has lost all her hair and is now wearing a wig and she has suffered greatly she has been at night clubs and girls have pulled the wig off her head shame-full,She has came to accept it now and has now become a lapdancer i say good on her but its not always the same for every one emotionally,I hope you are not offended by my comment Jackie

Thank you Jackie for your reply and no, i am not offended x. I dont think i live near any electricity pylons. I live in Derbyshire but dont seem to have any around me. Quite wierd! I cant think what your friend of 22 is going through but i can say good for her for doing what she does. I dont feel attractive at the moment, very concious of my hair, especially when the wind blows. I have always had long hair and been very proud of my mane and the state its in at the moment i dont no when its going to end. My hairdresser is very sympathetic and trying to treat it and help it grow and become strong again, but i no its not a cure. Its coming out everyday, a very large patch at the back left section and thining on top. The problem is i dont no where to go from here, the doctors and dermo are useless and should i loose it all - where do i go for help? Its nice to talk to someone who is either suffering or knows someone in this position, so thanks for your reply much appreciated, any advice is welcome x.
