Well, the year is ending on a low ebb for me as far as my wellbeing is concerned :(

My nutrition is poor, living off crisps, sandwiches & diet cola. I drink too much alcohol and I take no exercise. Predictably, my complexion is poor and my whole skin is dry. I am exhausted, overweight and more than a little depressed!! I feel I really need to make changes to improve my life and to feel more vibrant. I feel I am not living at the moment but dragging myself through each day. Also, now that I have hit my 30’s my skin is noticeably less resilient when I am not looking after myself, if I could stop the clock slightly too it would be great :)

I am being a bridesmaid for my friend in March, if the wedding was tomorrow I doubt I’d even have the guts to turn up I feel so down and sluggish, I need to feel better about myself by March, I want us to have a good day, I don’t want to be moaning about myself at all. And I want to look good for my friend’s big day, she’ll have to keep those photos for years to come, I don’t want to cause an embarrassment! So I will be thinking of an action plan, now is the time :)

@iris you can have juices too.

Theres many juices which are healthy and not as plain as water.

but make sure you have at least 1 glass of water per day.

all together you need 8 glasses of drink but not fizzy to help your digestion going to help you be more healthy. In food terms:

You could add a bit of salad to your meals.

Eg. bit of salad in a sandwhich or just a side dish.

i hope this helped you a bit

Hi Liz, well done! It is quite boring to start with, but once you get into it you do actually start to miss drinking water (when you can't) and your body 'tells' you when you don't. I would suggest doing things at your own pace so if you're struggling and need some herbal tea - go for it! Trying to do and change too much all at once might put you off doing anything at all - my motto is a little at a time, consistently. HTH, Screamy :-) xx.

Thanks screamy, yes I really need to drink more water! I find it so boring though. What healthy things can I add to it to pep it up a little?

I look forward to reading your blog.

Hi iris333, sorry for the late response - I blame it on the festivities leading up to and after Christmas :-) Drinking water, I do agree, is quite boring to start with. However, if you stick with it you'll wonder how you ever managed without it. I tend to add lemon slices or juice to my water in the morning. If you find yourself struggling just start out easy enough for you to be able to handle enough, but tough enough to make a difference to your life. For instance, if you never drink water one or two glasses a day for the first few days, or even week might be a challenge. Stick with that till you can handle it easily then up by one or two more glasses a day till you get to the recommended two litres. Believe me, by the time you start to see the difference in your skin, your hair, your complexion (and other functions that I won't mention on here), you won't need reminding to drink water. I start my day at about half-five with a cup of hot water and lemon. I then have a mug of green tea. The rest of the day is water and a mug or two tea (I LOVE tea!!). Then I end my day with the same as I started with. See what works for you and let us know :-)

Hi iris333, good on you for kicking off the detox blog :-)

My one 'magic' tool for a detox - refreshing and rejuvenating skin, spirit, soul and the rest of the body is H2O. Yes, water - drinking quite a bit of it in the day!  We've all heard it and you must 'know' it from your profession, but we all struggle to get into. However, it really does work.

For me it also helps with making me feel fuller before meals, reduce my cravings for fizz and other drinks and cleanse the insides.

I'll be working alongside you and the many others on TalkPerfection in about a week on the journey to a healthier, fitter and slimmer 2010!   I had too much to drink and eat over the break and didn't get ANY exercise!!  I am quite proud of myself though that I only put on about four pounds - thought it'd be more like forty!! I'm hoping to shake the four off pretty soon and move on to continuing with achieving my new goals.  My first tool out the box will definitely be water :-)

Have fun and enjoy the journey, I'm sure you'll make a beautiful bridesmaid in March ;-)
